Maypole Workshop - Whole School
To celebrate May Day and to build upon on our school value of respect we are delighted to announce that the children will be able to participate in a May Pole Dancing workshop on Tuesday 5th May.
At Hornbeam we celebrate our British Values and May Pole Dancing fits into this perfectly as the first May Pole Dancing celebration began as early as the 14th century where the end of spring and the beginning of summer was celebrated.
The session will be taught by professional dancers who will lead the whole class in keeping rhythm counting steps and creating patterns, they will introduce core skills of maths, problem solving and teamwork as well as getting active.
Maypole dancing is a valuable school activity that promotes teamwork, physical activity, and cultural heritage, offering benefits like improved coordination and spatial awareness.
Please wear PE/Games kits and suitable footwear on the day.
There is a cost of £2.50 per child for this event with can be paid via Eduspot or cash to the office.
We hope you agree this will be a fantastic opportunity for the children and a fun activity to kick start the summer term.
